CAS 2011

This semester I attended in the Community and Service, RCCI where their goal is top help teach rehabilitation center kids to play sports or even how to paint. I was comfortable being in this type of environment with the kids, espacially since I was able to attend with two other my peers in my class. I thought kids specifically how to play basketball and I found out that it wasn't too difficult to communicate with them. I was able to use sign language to talk with them and they would understand the task. For example if I was to teach them basketball, I could hand them the basketball and point at the basket and they would understand that they have to get the ball inside the hoop.

Today we visited the zoo with the R.C.C.I. kids which stands for rehabilitation center for the communication impaired. We had to have a partner from the R.C.C.I. to go around with in the zoo. They mostly speak sri lankan so I already knew how to talk to them and understand them. We looked at many animals such as monkeys, leopards, jaguars etc.

Last semester I did Prison babies for my Community and Service. This is about the poor children that have parents that live in prison so the kids have to be with their parents which means they also have to be in prison with them. We visit their prison once a week in different groups to educate the kids new things to them such as reading and speaking.
